Used Honda Civic - Airdrie Honda Calgary

Decades of History.

The Civic was introduced in 1972 for the 1973 model year. Eight different generations of the car have been built, with each version getting a more modern look. With each redesign also came a larger car, further distancing the Civic from its subcompact roots. The Civic has won many "Car of the Year" awards and earned the honour in Japan in its first three years of production.

The Early Years

  • The first Civics were available either as a two-door coupe or a hatchback. They were basic cars with an 1169cc engine, giving it supreme fuel efficiency numbers, which helped its popularity during the gas shortages of the 1970s.

Crash Tests

  • The eighth generation Honda Civic has been awarded a "Good" rating on side impact and frontal crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The Hatchback

  • The Civic hatchback has enjoyed popularity in Japan, Europe, but never really caught on in the United States. As a result, Honda stopped selling a hatchback version of the car in North America in 2005.

More Features

  • Modern Civics have become more than the basic transportation of their predecessors, as power windows come standard on all models and air conditioning is standard on the EX and LX trim line.

Going Green

  • Honda rolled out a hybrid version of its popular car in 2003, which gets 5.881 L/100km in the city and 5.223 L/100km on the highway, according to its EPA rating.
